Dr Wei Aun Yap’s clinical career involved working in a wide range of clinical settings and specialties, starting in the northeast of England with NHS England, and progressing to remote district hospitals in Sibu and Limbang, Sarawak, and with the Intensive Care Unit at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, the largest in the country, as his last clinical posting.
More recently, he has been involved in health systems and social protection, working with the World Bank in Lao PDR, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Key topical areas include maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), nutrition, human resources for health (HRH), health financing, and supply-side readiness. He was also involved in the design and analysis of various surveys involving households, health workers, and health facilities. Wei Aun also served as Country Technical Director for the Malaysia Health Systems Research collaboration with the Malaysian Ministry of Health, to support the government’s efforts “to strengthen the Malaysian health system”.
Recent publicly disclosed research includes the Malaysia Health Systems Research Volume I: Contextual Analysis of the Malaysian Health System and various World Bank reports.
