Dr Woon Yuan Liang is presently the Head of Center for Clinical Epidemiology, Institute for Clinical Research. He graduated from the International Medical University (IMU) in 2012 and obtained his Master of Public Health from University of Malaya (UM) in 2017.
Dr Woon has been with the Institute for Clinical Research since 2015. A significant portion of his previous research projects were very much related to infectious disease. He had numerous international peer-reviewed publications focusing on dengue disease; and received multiple invitations from various international journals as a peer reviewer. One of his previous works was related to dengue seroprevalence in Malaysia, and its findings had contributed to the decision making on dengue vaccine registration. During this COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Woon and his team involve in multiple epidemiological studies related to COVID-19 and its collateral damage towards Malaysian healthcare system. His team is also currently looking into Malaysians’ perception and acceptability towards COVID-19 vaccination.
Other than infectious disease, Dr. Woon also has special interest on cancer and palliative care. In the past year, his team had received research grants worth more than RM500,000 to look into the timeliness of cancer patients’ journey from symptoms presentation to treatment initiation; as well as the preferred and actual place of death among palliative care patients.
