ABSTRACT

Plenary 1: Hepatitis C - The Future is Now

The prevalence of Hepatitis C is increasing worldwide, with about 71 million people with chronic hepatitis C infection worldwide. World Health Organization (WHO) has put the goal to eliminate Hepatitis C as a major public health threat by year 2030, and Malaysia has made its move. Ministry of Health Malaysia has adopted a collaborative approach with strategic planning to make the diagnostic tests and direct antiviral acting agents available and affordable, and hence, our target to eliminate Hepatitis C is possible. Similar model may be adapted and adopted for other diseases as we are moving into the era of precision medicine.
